Free. Free to love, to feel, to live, and free to be all that we are and dream of being. Free from the pain and trauma that holds us down. Free from the limits that we put on ourselves and the ones others put on us. Free from the norms that tell us what we can and should be as women. Free from self-doubt, self-harm, and self-sabotage. Free to be authentic and passionate. Free to dream and experience and live fully. Free to be human and with that, imperfect. Free to make our own choices and choose our own paths. Free to learn and grow. Free to be our true, whole selves. That is the untethered woman.
As I age, I find that much of my focus is actually undoing the 'before' stuff that got me here and trust me, it is not easy work! It's like cleaning barnacles off a boat. Barnacles are these pesky, but crazy strong living creatures that literally 'cement' themselves to their host (boats, piers, animals). Lots of effort goes into removing and keeping them off boats because they reduce efficiency, increase emissions, and cost owners money. When removing barnacles, careful because they can easily leave you bloodied.
Pain, trauma, heartache, abuse, and so many other things are like barnacles on our souls. In some ways, they serve as protective barriers that we use to ensure the terrible doesn't happen again. However as we avoid being scraped by their painful edges, they also slow us down, limit us, and prevent us from truly living. Without regular care to address and remove them, they both multiply and cement even further, making it ten times harder to remove That's where I'm at... actively working my way through layers of pain and trauma, in hopes of finding, well... me. And like cleaning off barnacles, there are cuts and bruises in the removal process, but underneath the layers is a beautiful soul that deserves to be untethered and set free.
I wish it were an easy process. It's not. I wish I had all the answers. I don't. But what I'd like to do is share with you the things that have helped me in my journey to achieving my untethered soul. I hope it will be helpful to you. Most of all, I hope that you will find, and more importantly, embrace, your untethered soul and the freedom to be, embrace, and fully love your whole self.
